Compassionate Communication at Work: Reduce Conflict, Enhance Connection and Improve Team Effectiveness

Training Overview

Background

In healthcare settings, effective communication is crucial not only for patient care but also for maintaining a healthy workplace environment. However, many nurse leaders face challenges due to ineffective communication, which can lead to increased conflict, decreased staff morale, and poor team dynamics. These issues often result in significant personal stress for nurses, high turnover rates, and ultimately, a decline in patient care quality. The organizational impact is profound, with increased costs due to inefficiencies, errors, and the need for frequent retraining of new staff. Addressing the root causes of communication breakdowns is essential for fostering a collaborative and supportive work culture.

Overview of training

The “Compassionate Communication at Work” training program is designed specifically for nurse leaders. This training integrates the principles of Nonviolent Communication (NVC) by Marshall Rosenberg and the compassionate leadership approaches advocated by Michael West. Through interactive sessions, role-playing, and real-world scenarios, participants will learn to apply compassionate communication techniques in their daily interactions to reduce workplace conflict, enhance connection among team members, and improve overall team effectiveness. The training aims to equip nurse leaders and teams with the tools they need to communicate with empathy, assertiveness, and promote a culture of open and honest communication.

Testimonials

Workshop feedback:

I attended Nathan's workshop on self-compassion for midwives recently and it was very enlightening. Amongst other things, he did some visualisation techniques with our group which I have found to be really beneficial. He taught us that they can be easily transferable for use with all sorts of situations. I have already felt the benefit of his session and it's amazing how 2.5 hours can have such a positive impact in so many ways instantly.
