How the programme works .

A gentle pace of roughly one module a fortnight gives nurses time to practise. Each live session sits within a flexible window, so it can be scheduled around rotas.
Short videos, audio and written exercises on any device, with quick practices that can be used on shift.
Four 60 to 90 minute sessions, online or face-to-face, led by your PNAs or equivalent staff, who are supported by Nurse Wellbeing Mission.
Support your nurses with tools that stick.
This program is built using psychological tools with a strong evidence base, adapted to the emotional reality of modern nursing.
Ideal for newly registered nurses, preceptorship programs, or leadership development
Delivered online via our user-friendly platform
Delivered as a cohort with supplemental live group sessions
Can be embedded into existing onboarding, CPD, or development pathways

Why invest in this programme?
Burnout, stress-related sickness, and early career drop-off are hurting your workforce, and your bottom line. The Empowered Nurse Toolkit is a 12-week, evidence-informed program that equips nurses with the essential tools to stay healthy, engaged, and emotionally steady in a demanding profession.
There are multiple research-backed benefits to investing in nurse wellbeing programs like this:
Burnout Affects Patient Safety and Care Quality
Unaddressed burnout isn’t just hard on nurses, it compromises care. A 2024 meta-analysis of 85 studies and over 288,000 nurses, published in JAMA Network Open, found that nurse burnout is consistently linked to lower patient safety, reduced care quality and poorer patient satisfaction. Tackling burnout matters for patients as well as staff.
Lower Absenteeism & Turnover
Investing in mental health support isn’t just beneficial for staff well-being, it also offers a significant return on investment. Deloitte’s ‘Mental Health and Employers’ 2024 report indicates that UK employers receive an average of £4.70 back for every £1 spent on mental health initiatives. This is thanks to reductions in absenteeism, presenteeism, and staff turnover.
Group-Based Support Reduces Burnout
A 2023 meta-analysis of interventions for clinical nurses found that group-based programmes reduced emotional exhaustion and depersonalisation, two core features of burnout. The Empowered Nurse Toolkit is delivered as a cohort for exactly this reason, combining practical psychological tools with peer support.

Meet the Creator
Dr Nathan Illman is a Clinical Psychologist and the founder of Nurse Wellbeing Mission. He created The Empowered Nurse Toolkit to provide the kind of emotional support and practical tools he believes every nurse deserves, but is rarely given.
Nathan’s passion for this work began when he witnessed, firsthand, the compassion, strength, and emotional toll of nursing during his father’s end-of-life care.
The Empowered Nurse Toolkit brings together evidence-informed techniques from psychology — including self-compassion, stress mindset theory, and emotional regulation — in a format that’s accessible, flexible, and relevant to the real-world demands of nursing.
